Abstrakt: The Garrison School in Illinois, which had the highest student arrest rate in the nation, has agreed to reform its disciplinary practices and provide services to students who missed class due to being arrested or sent to a seclusion room. The agreement was reached with the U.S. Department of Education following a federal civil rights investigation prompted by a ProPublica and Chicago Tribune investigation. Under the agreement, students who were referred to police or sent to a crisis room multiple times in the past three years may be eligible for services such as tutoring, counseling, or remedial education. The school must also develop new policies for the use of crisis rooms and provide training to staff. [Extracted from the article]
