Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the Medical College of Georgia has found that sexual minority (SM) populations, including lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals, may have a higher risk of cancer due to social determinants of health (SDOH) such as limited healthcare access, discrimination, and a lack of culturally sensitive care. SM individuals also experience higher chronic physiological stress, known as allostatic load (AL), compared to their heterosexual peers. The study examined the mediating effects of SDOH on the relationship between SM identity and AL with cancer mortality risk. The findings suggest that various SDOH factors, such as household income, access to healthcare, and general health condition, significantly mediate this relationship. These results can help inform interventions to reduce health disparities among SM populations. [Extracted from the article]
