Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the Hyogo Prefectural Amagasaki General Medical Center in Japan has provided new insights into autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). The study reports a case of a 19-year-old woman with AIHA who also tested positive for paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH), a rare disease in adults. The patient was successfully treated with prednisolone followed by rituximab, resulting in improvement of AIHA and a negative Donath-Landsteiner antibody test result. The researchers suggest that clinicians should be aware of the possibility of concurrent warm-type AIHA and PCH and consider rituximab as a treatment option. [Extracted from the article]
