Abstrakt: A study conducted at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City aims to reduce the stigma associated with lung cancer through empathic communication skills training for oncology care providers (OCPs). The research found that nearly all people with lung cancer experience stigma, and about half of them experience it during clinical encounters with OCPs. The study will recruit 16 community oncology practice sites and investigate the effect of the training on OCPs' communication and empathic skill uptake, as well as patient-reported outcomes such as lung cancer stigma and perceived clinician empathy. The findings from this trial will contribute to understanding the effectiveness of the training intervention and inform future efforts to reduce lung cancer stigma and improve cancer care delivery.
