A study conducted by researchers at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) analyzed the International Marker Consortium for Renal Cancer (INMARC) database to identify predictive factors for recurrence and outcomes in T1a renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The study found that age, sex, diabetes, grade, histology, and variant histology were independent risk factors for increased risk of recurrence. Additionally, high-grade tumors and pT3a upstaging were predictive factors for worsened risk of cancer-specific mortality, while papillary histology was associated with improved risk. The study suggests that follow-up protocols should be consolidated and imaging follow-up should be intensified for high-grade T1a RCC. [Extracted from the article] |
