Researchers from Future University in Egypt have conducted a review on non-opioid approaches to postoperative pain management following laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). LC is a common surgical procedure for gallstone disease, but it can result in severe abdominal and shoulder pain. The review discusses various innovative pain management strategies, including pharmacological interventions such as IV paracetamol, magnesium sulfate, dexamethasone, ondansetron, gabapentinoids, alpha-2-agonists, local anesthetics, antidepressants, and NSAIDs. Non-pharmacological approaches and emerging technologies are also explored.
