This article is a response to a commentary on football violence in Europe and England. The authors criticize the original commentary for lacking methodological rigor and ignoring existing knowledge on football hooliganism. They argue that cultural contexts and the issue of misogyny in English football should be considered. The authors address the conceptualization and scale of football-related violence in England and the effectiveness of measures to prevent it. They challenge claims about the decline of hooliganism in the UK and argue against the notion that all-seater stadiums contribute to safety. The article discusses safe-standing policies and the broader culture of violence associated with football. It emphasizes the importance of cultural differences and diverse perspectives in researching football fandom and calls for a more critical understanding of football violence.
