The theme of social relations has always been central to Sociology: a few authors have tried to decipher them in the light of a more biological approach; others have instead privileged social action. Truth is humanity is made up of biologically determined individuals and culturally determined subjects: an inextricable biosocial entanglement that makes them persons. Algorithms and big data have recently given boost to the possibility of investigating with greater awareness and capacity in such a complex world. This could be a way to overcome reductionist approaches, through more complex perspectives. But doubts remain, both technical and ethical, that need to be addressed and resolved.
