Businesses in British Columbia are expressing concerns about public safety ahead of the provincial election. Small and medium-sized businesses have reported increased anxiety and a rise in vandalism. The issue of drug use and crime has affected their operations, with many businesses experiencing increased violence, theft, and broken windows. The BC NDP's decriminalization pilot project, which aimed to reduce stigma and fear of criminal prosecution, faced backlash and was rolled back. The BC Conservatives propose re-criminalizing drugs and focusing on treatment and recovery, while the BC Greens support decriminalization and safe supply, as well as addressing the root causes of mental health and addiction issues.
