As gifted educators, we must create spaces that welcome and empower our students to contribute to our diverse communities and elevate their voices and opportunities. Through culturally responsive and sustainable teaching practices, we can develop cultural awareness and holistically embrace our gifted children—how they think, feel, and learn. We can also understand who they are and where they come from: their backgrounds, cultures, families, and communities, and then foster cultures of belonging. We can facilitate real growth change for all our gifted students by expanding our classroom perspectives and exploring culturally sustainable instructional approaches. This article provides practical strategies for integrating this mindset and adopting inclusive practices into the gifted classroom. We share tools and frameworks needed to promote and develop cultural awareness to facilitate real change, embrace equity and celebrate diversity in the classroom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
