A recent study conducted by researchers at Johns Hopkins University focused on the clinical features and outcomes of individuals with pathogenic desmoplakin (DSP) variants, which are associated with a distinct form of arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. The study included 800 patients from 26 academic institutions across nine countries. The findings revealed that patients with DSP variants experienced high rates of sustained ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure hospitalizations. Risk factors for adverse outcomes included prior ventricular arrhythmias, T-wave inversion on electrocardiogram, left ventricular ejection fraction below 50%, and myocardial injury events.
