Abstrakt: Researchers from Anhui University of Science and Technology in Huainan, China have conducted a study on the phase transformation behavior and shape memory effect of nickel-titanium shape memory alloy (NiTi-SMA) using magnetic field assisted wire electrical discharge machining (MFA-WEDM). The study found that the heat affected layer (HAL) formed on the surface of NiTi-SMA during WEDM can affect its functionality. The researchers introduced the MFA process to improve the machining performance of NiTi-SMA and found that it can enhance the shape memory effect, improve surface quality, and reduce the thickness of the brittle fracture region. However, excessive peak currents and pulse on time should be avoided to achieve optimal shape memory functionality. [Extracted from the article]
