A recent report from researchers at Chemisches und Veterinaruntersuchungsamt (CVUA) Karlsruhe in Germany explores the potential adverse effects of cannabidiol (CBD) products. The researchers investigated whether these effects could be caused by contamination with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive compound found in marijuana. Their analysis of 413 hemp-based products on the German market, mostly CBD oils, revealed that 12% of the products contained THC levels above the lowest observed adverse effect level. The researchers concluded that the safety, efficacy, and purity of commercial CBD products are questionable, and there is a need for a strong regulatory framework for hemp products.
