A recent report from University Hospital Wurzburg in Germany discusses the importance of understanding the factors that contribute to susceptibility and outcomes of respiratory viral infections (RVIs), such as influenza A virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The researchers are conducting a prospective birth cohort study to identify endogenous and environmental factors associated with RVI susceptibility and their impact on immune responses. The study aims to generate comprehensive datasets to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of competent anti-RVI immunity in early life and to prevent severe RVIs. The research provides valuable insights into the maturation of immunity against respiratory viral infections. [Extracted from the article] |
