A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) highlights the need for increased antiracist training in health psychology. The study focuses on an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited pediatric psychology internship training program that has successfully addressed pipeline problems related to the recruitment and retention of diverse trainees. The program implemented a diversity mission and vision statement, created a training culture that values contributions from underrepresented groups, emphasized antiracism in recruitment materials, and developed an experiential, intersectional, and antiracist cultural humility curriculum for predoctoral interns. The study demonstrates that investing in antiracist training resources can lead to the recruitment and retention of diverse trainees, a more inclusive training culture, and the advancement of antiracism in the field of health service psychology.
