The article discusses the environmental damage caused by American beavers in the archipelago of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. The beavers were imported in 1946 with the intention of establishing a fur industry, but they have since multiplied to around 100,000 and are destroying the islands. The beavers have gnawed down thousands of acres of forests, flooded various habitats with their dams, and killed native species. The article argues that due to the large number of beavers, humane trapping is not feasible, and the only option is to kill them in order to save the ecosystem. [Extracted from the article] |
