This article discusses two books that explore the relationship between Sargent Shriver's Catholicism and his political and business endeavors. "The Call: the Spiritual Realism of Sargent Shriver" uses an imagined dialogue with Shriver to examine how his faith influenced his decisions, while "Spiritualizing Politics without Politicizing Religion: the Example of Sargent Shriver" discusses how Shriver brought his faith to bear on public policy. Both books highlight Shriver's commitment to genuine dialogue, his belief in the proper role of faith in the public square, and his willingness to compromise. The article suggests that Shriver's approach to politics is worth emulating. [Extracted from the article] |
