Abstrakt: This article is an interview with Joey Ghersi and Stefania Nicoli, the authors of a study on the role of Akt in vascular development. The study used a zebrafish model to investigate the effects of complete Akt mutations on arterial specification. The researchers found that Akt signaling is essential for the proper specification of arterial cells, with Notch signaling being the primary pathway affected by Akt loss of function. The study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying arteriovenous differentiation and highlights the potential of the zebrafish model for further research on Akt's roles in development and disease. The authors chose to submit their paper to Development, a leading journal in the field of developmental biology, known for its rigorous standards and impactful publications. Joey Ghersi has recently established his own research group at the CHU Sainte-Justine and the University of Montreal, focusing on unraveling the mechanisms of cell signaling in endothelial cells and hematopoietic stem cells. Outside of the lab, Joey enjoys nature photography and biking. [Extracted from the article]
