Insulin resistance (IR) is a condition where normal insulin levels are unable to trigger proper glucose uptake in cells, and it is a comorbidity of psoriasis. Inflammatory mediators involved in IR are also commonly dysregulated in psoriasis. A study by Huang et al. found that IR impaired the effectiveness of biologic treatment for psoriasis, with patients in the high IR group displaying worse treatment outcomes. However, the study did not identify differential responses to different treatments. It may be important to address cardiovascular risk in all patients with psoriasis, regardless of IR.
