A recent study conducted by researchers at CES University in Medellin, Colombia, focused on the detection of genes related to antibiotic resistance in the Leptospira genus. Leptospirosis is a disease caused by bacteria from the Leptospira genus, which can be acquired through contact with urine from infected animals. The researchers analyzed whole genomes from 69 Leptospira species and found 12 genes associated with antibiotic resistance. This study provides evidence of the presence of antibiotic resistance genes in some species of Leptospira and serves as a starting point for future experimental evaluation.
