Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Ibn Tofail University in Morocco explored the long-term effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex in male and female Wistar rats. LPS is a large molecule found in the outer membranes of Gram-negative bacteria that has been shown to cause dysfunction in various tissues and organs, including the brain. The researchers assessed the oxidative stress effects of LPS in different stages of the rats' lives and found that LPS administration resulted in increased antioxidant enzyme activities in the brains of adolescent and adult male rats, but did not affect antioxidant activity in the brains of female rats. These findings suggest that the effects of LPS on oxidative stress differ between males and females. [Extracted from the article]
