The Gifu Prefectural General Medical Center in Japan has become the first hospital in the country to treat cancer patients using surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) with the Accuray Radixact Radiation Delivery System and VitalHold package. SGRT allows medical teams to accurately position patients and monitor their positioning throughout treatment, which is particularly beneficial for left breast cancer treatment to protect the heart from radiation. The system uses high-resolution cameras to create a 3-dimensional map of a patient's skin, enabling medical teams to ensure accurate positioning during radiation delivery. This milestone is expected to improve access, outcomes, and the patient experience in cancer care in Japan. [Extracted from the article] |
