Abstrakt: A recent study conducted in Bangladesh aimed to fill the knowledge gap regarding primary hypothyroidism in the country. The study included 2,641 adult patients with primary hypothyroidism who had been on levothyroxine (L-T4) replacement therapy for at least 1 year. The study found that only 26.8% of patients had high adherence to L-T4, and nearly half of the patients did not have optimal L-T4 replacement. Factors associated with uncontrolled hypothyroidism included a vegetarian diet, smokeless tobacco use, disease duration over 5 years, consumption of iron or calcium supplements within 4 hours of L-T4 intake, and low or medium adherence to L-T4. The researchers concluded that physicians should address the barriers to reaching the therapeutic goal for these patients. [Extracted from the article]
