A recent study conducted by researchers from the Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, North Carolina, examined the prevalence of the cagA virulence factor in patients with active Helicobacter pylori infection. The study found that Black patients with H. pylori infection were twice as likely to have the cagA factor compared to White patients (82% vs 36%). The presence of cagA is common among patients undergoing upper endoscopy and appropriate testing and treatment of H. pylori can help reduce gastric cancer risk and address health disparities. This research provides valuable insights into the racial variations in the prevalence of the cagA virulence factor in H. pylori-infected patients. [Extracted from the article] |
