Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Wroclaw Medical University in Poland investigated the concentrations of follistatin and activin A in the serum of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and their relationship with selected biochemical parameters. The study found significant differences in follistatin concentrations between women with PCOS based on insulin resistance and weight. Additionally, activin A concentrations were increased in non-smoking women with PCOS who had higher body mass index (BMI) and insulin resistance. The study concluded that disruptions in glucose metabolism and BMI have a stronger influence on activin A and follistatin concentrations than tobacco smoke exposure. [Extracted from the article]
