A recent study conducted by researchers at Iran University of Medical Sciences investigated the potential association between aspirin use and white matter (WM) microstructural changes in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a precursor to Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study utilized data from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and found that aspirin users exhibited better-preserved WM microstructure compared to non-users. These findings suggest that aspirin may have neuroprotective effects on WM in early AD, potentially delaying cognitive decline. However, further research is needed to confirm these results and explore the underlying mechanisms. [Extracted from the article] |
