A recent study conducted in Bogota, Colombia examined the etiological factors behind acute moderate and severe malnutrition in children under 5 years old who required hospitalization for treatment. The study found that the main factors contributing to malnutrition were problems with total food intake, transition in consistency of feeding, and breastfeeding technique. Food insecurity was only a factor for a small percentage of patients. The research concluded that addressing these factors is crucial in preventing and treating malnutrition in this population.
