Abstrakt: A report from Curtin University in Perth, Australia discusses research findings on congenital heart disease (CHD). The study aimed to investigate the usefulness and clinical value of four visualization modalities for CHD, including digital imaging, 3D-printed heart models, virtual reality, and 3D portable document format. Seventeen cardiac specialists participated in the study, and the results showed that virtual reality was ranked as the best modality for understanding spatial associations between cardiac structures and for presurgical planning, while 3D-printed heart models were ranked as the best modality for communicating with patients and their families. The study concludes that both virtual reality and 3D-printed heart models have advantages over other modalities in visualizing and managing CHD. [Extracted from the article]
