Abstrakt: A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at the University of New England examined the rate and appropriateness of antimicrobial prescriptions for respiratory tract infections. The study found that the prescribing rate of antimicrobials was high, ranging from 25% to 90%, with a pooled rate of 66%. The most frequently prescribed antimicrobial agents were amoxicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, azithromycin, and erythromycin. The study also revealed that 45% of antimicrobial prescriptions were inappropriate, with the main cause being the lack of proper indications. The researchers concluded that further studies are needed to understand the factors contributing to unnecessary antimicrobial prescriptions in outpatients. [Extracted from the article]
