The main goal of this paper is to find out if there are distinct differences between the topics of intellectual capital and knowledge management. Given the scarcity of research focusing on them, only one case was obtained, encompassing the 2, within the scope of a sports company. It is concluded that there are differences, despite the topics being intangible in nature. Some insights can be highlighted. Knowledge-based businesses create value. The relationship established between them is bidirectional. Even though they are autonomous, they have a complementary relationship with each other. Its result can culminate in both the creation and destruction of value, for all or some stakeholders. The strategies that are at the base can be located at either an optimal or sub-optimal level. Explanations for verifying this can be found in the codification of intellectual capital and in the institutional (asymmetry of information and knowledge) and agency (incentive to define strategies that are more favorable to managers and less to other stakeholders) theories.
