The article provides an overview of the 2023 MLA Teaching Institutes, which were designed to offer professional development opportunities to educators in North America. These institutes were funded by a grant and involved partnerships between universities and community colleges. The curriculum was tailored to meet the specific needs of local communities, and previous facilitators served as mentors to new facilitator teams. The institutes focused on topics such as antiracist pedagogies, transparent assignment design, writing communities, and writing across disciplines. Participants had the chance to work on project proposals and engage in additional activities like earning graduate credits, presenting at conferences, and developing manuscripts for publication. The article concludes by sharing the experiences and considerations of the 2023 facilitators and announcing that the MLA will continue to offer institutes until 2025. The text also discusses the outcomes and experiences of various Teaching Institutes on reading and writing pedagogy at access-oriented institutions. These institutes aimed to enhance understanding of access and its connection to critical reading and writing in different fields of study.
