Abstrakt: The article explores the depiction of urban design elements, particularly walls, in 19th-century American literature and their psychological and symbolic impacts. It analyzes how walls, as both literal and metaphorical structures, influence characters' experiences and perceptions in Herman Melville's "Bartleby, the Scrivener" and Edgar Allan Poe's "The Man of the Crowd" and "The Cask of Amontillado."
