Abstrakt: The article focuses on the enduring presence of the Dutch language in New York, U.S., well after the English conquest in 1664. Topics include the influence of entrenched Dutch-speaking communities and the Dutch Reformed Church; the limited immigration and geographic isolation that helped preserve the language; and the social and linguistic dynamics that contributed to Dutch's persistence into the 19th and early 20th centuries.
