The effects of Ag additions on sintering and crystallisation of 6.5CaO-17.8SrO-10.1BaO-8.4Al2O3-46.4SiO2-10.8TiO2 glass, prepared by conventional melt quenching, were investigated. 0-5.9 wt% Ag metal powder was mixed with the prepared glass powder. In the samples sintered at 800°C containing 0-2.4 wt% Ag, diffraction peaks corresponding to Ag and crystallised phase were not observable by XRD. As the amount of Ag was increased up to 5.9 wt%, the diffraction peak intensities of the crystallised phase and Ag metal increased with increasing Ag content. Major precipitated phases in the sintered samples containing various amounts of Ag were a (Ca,Sr,Ba)2TiSi2O8 solid solution and a (Ca,Sr,Ba) Al2Si2O8 solid solution. In the samples sintered at 800°C, the dielectric constant increased monotonically from 9.4 to 12.1 with increasing Ag content up to 4.7 wt% Ag. However, TCD (temperature coefficient of dielectric) values varied in a complex manner with increasing Ag contents. Ag ions dissolved into the glass during sintering process. The dissolved Ag ions modified the structure of the glass network and thus viscosity and dielectric properties of glass were changed with changes in Ag content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
