Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Federal University Goias in Goiania, Brazil, has explored the use of supercritical water technology for the treatment of pharmaceutical contaminants in wastewater. The researchers investigated the impact of temperature, feed flow rate, and concentration of H2O2 on the degradation of organic matter in a simulated wastewater containing five psychoactive drugs. The study found that under optimal conditions, the process achieved a high removal efficiency of organic carbon and reduced concentrations of biochemical oxygen demand and chemical oxygen demand. The researchers concluded that the supercritical water process shows promise as an energy-efficient solution for large-scale wastewater treatment and valorization. [Extracted from the article]
