A recent study conducted at a maternity hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, aimed to determine the prevalence of postpartum depression among mothers and explore their experiences during pregnancy and postpartum. The study involved 271 participants and utilized a mixed method approach, including in-depth interviews and self-administered questionnaires. The findings revealed that 12.24% of the mothers experienced postpartum depression, and many faced physical and mental challenges during pregnancy. Lack of support from family and spouses, adherence to traditional superstitions, and limited access to medical advice were identified as barriers to postpartum care. The study emphasizes the importance of pre-pregnancy assessment, depression screening, and holistic support for mothers experiencing postpartum struggles. [Extracted from the article] |
