A study conducted by researchers at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University in Islamabad, Pakistan, aimed to identify genetic variants in the SLCO1B1 gene that may be associated with cough induced by angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) in a Pakistani hypertensive population. The study found that a specific haplotype, H4, was significantly associated with ACEI-induced cough. The researchers suggest that this finding could be used as a potential risk factor for ACEI-induced cough in clinical practice, pending confirmation in larger clinical trials. The study highlights the importance of genetic variants in predicting ACEI-induced cough and may contribute to the therapeutic use of ACEIs. [Extracted from the article] |
