A study conducted by researchers at the University of Hong Kong explored the associations between the gut microbiome and neuroimaging markers of glymphatic dysfunction and cognitive functions in healthy middle-aged Chinese individuals. The study found significant positive correlations between the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and the neuroimaging markers. Additionally, certain species-level gut microbiota were found to be associated with the markers. The research suggests that gut microbiome dysregulation may play a role in the development of dementia in asymptomatic individuals. [Extracted from the article] |
