A report from Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda discusses the spectrum and trends of cancer in Southwestern Uganda from 2012 to 2021. The study found that cancer incidence is increasing globally, particularly in low and middle-income countries. The most commonly diagnosed cancers in Southwestern Uganda were prostate cancer, ocular surface carcinoma, cervical cancer, head and neck cancers, esophageal carcinoma, lymphomas, retinoblastoma, and breast cancer. The study also noted that the trend of Kaposi sarcoma has decreased. The researchers concluded that the presence of diagnostic and treatment expertise in the region may influence cancer trends.
