A new report from researchers at the Universidade Federal de Ciencias da Saude de Porto Alegre in Brazil highlights the increasing global prevalence of obesity and its status as a serious public health problem. The study focuses on the complex and multifactorial etiology of obesity, specifically investigating the association between a gene variant called DNMT3B and DNA methylation, as well as changes in anthropometric parameters in a cohort of 171 children from birth to 12 years old. The results suggest that the DNMT3B gene variant and DNA methylation may be relevant factors in the increased risk of children developing obesity at an early age. [Extracted from the article] |
