A recent study conducted by researchers at the Anderson Orthopedic Research Institute compared the outcomes of fixed-bearing (FB) and mobile-bearing (MB) medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). The study analyzed data from 2,999 UKAs performed between January 2006 and December 2022. The results showed that FB UKAs had slightly higher survival rates compared to MB UKAs. Additionally, the study found that MB designs had an increased risk of bearing dislocation and osteoarthritis progression, while FB designs had a higher incidence of early periprosthetic tibia fractures.
