A recent study conducted at Queen's University in Canada explored the needs and experiences of adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who have undergone or are anticipating ostomy surgery. The study found that there is a lack of literature on the psychosocial implications of ostomy surgeries, particularly in the adolescent population. The research identified four main themes: fear of the unknown, perceived barriers, being supported, and recommendations for creating a more positive experience.
