Abstrakt: | Clemson University researchers conducted a study to identify the barriers that underserved farmers and ranchers in South Carolina face in participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) climate-smart agricultural programs. The study found three primary barriers: lack of program clarity and visibility, lack of accountability, and lack of NRCS support. The researchers provide recommendations to address and overcome each barrier. This research is important because underserved farmers and ranchers represent an important economic sector in agriculture and could benefit from participating in these programs to enhance their farming operations and mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.
