Abstrakt: A report from the University of Veterinary Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic, discusses the circulation of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) between humans, horses, and the environment at an equine clinic. The researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of MRSA isolates collected from 2008 to 2021, including clinical and screening samples. They found that the MRSA isolates were resistant to multiple antibiotics and carried various genetic markers for resistance. The study also revealed a close genetic relationship between isolates from clinic staff and clinical samples from horses, suggesting transmission between humans and animals. The research highlights the repeated introduction and persistence of MRSA in horses at the equine clinic, as well as the potential for transmission to humans and environmental contamination.
