A study conducted by researchers at the University of Jinan in Zhuhai, China, investigated the presence and migration of volatile and semi-volatile compounds, as well as chemical elements, in water-borne coating paper used for food packaging. The study found that the migration of certain compounds in 50% ethanol and 95% ethanol exceeded safety thresholds and may pose health risks. However, the estimated daily intake of most migrants and chemical elements through human exposure fell below toxicological reference values. The researchers concluded that understanding the migration and potential risks of migrants is crucial for ensuring the safety of using water-borne coating paper in food contact applications.
