This article provides information on the diagnosis and management of pulmonary embolism (PE) for healthcare professionals. It covers the definition, pathophysiology, and risk factors of PE, as well as the clinical presentation and diagnostic evaluation. The article suggests using clinical prediction scores and D-dimer tests to assess the probability of PE and recommends computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA) as the imaging modality of choice. It also discusses the management of PE, including reperfusion therapy for high-risk cases and anticoagulation therapy for low-risk cases.
