The present study was designed to evaluate the cardiotoxicity effect of formulated agar (FA) from Turbinaria conoides in zebrafish embryos (ZFE). The agar was formulated by aqueous extract method. The physio-chemical and structural characterization was analyzed by texture analysis, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis. Spreadability and in vitro sample diffusion assays were determined. The agar isolated from T. conoides had a yield of 84.2% and moisture content of 38%. The FTIR analysis indicated the presence of alkanes and aliphatic amines while SEM analysis showed densely packed structure. The FA showed a water loss of 115.2, spreadability of 72.12%, and in vitro release of 98% in 3 h. At a concentration of 0.02 μg/mL in ZFE, FA's cardiotoxicity and teratogenic effects did not change significantly (P>0.05). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
