Abstrakt: This article discusses a study conducted at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS in Rome, which aimed to evaluate the impact of placental anastomoses and cord insertion site as independent risk factors for adverse fetal and neonatal outcomes in monochorionic twin pregnancies. The study found a significant positive correlation between fetal weight discordance and discordance in the cord insertion sites, suggesting that ultrasound evaluation of umbilical cord insertion site could be useful in predicting adverse events in these pregnancies. The authors also suggest that implementing the evaluation of cord insertion site in dichorionic pregnancies could potentially alter current management practices. [Extracted from the article]
