This article analyzes the rate of Caesarean sections (CS) at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Nigeria using the Robson 10-group classification system. The study found that the CS rate during the one-year period was 45.8%. The highest contributing groups to the CS rate were Group 5 (multiparous with at least 1 previous CS), Group 2 (nulliparous with induced or prelabour CS), and Group 10 (women with a single cephalic pregnancy before 37 weeks, including those with previous CS). The study suggests that efforts should be made to reduce the primary CS rate and discourage the increasing use of CS for non-obstetric reasons. [Extracted from the article] |
