This article presents the findings of a register-based cohort study conducted in Denmark from 2008 to 2018, which aimed to assess and compare the incidence and risk of pre-eclampsia (PE) in twin pregnancies based on various factors. The study included 9,398 dichorionic (DC) and 1,947 monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin pregnancies, as well as 19,341 singletons. The results showed that MCDA twins had a significantly higher cumulative risk of PE at lower gestational ages (GA) compared to DC twins, particularly before 34+0, 36+0, and 38+0 weeks. Additionally, monozygotic (MZ) twins had a higher risk of PE compared to dizygotic (DZ) twins before GA 34+0, and there was a marginal significance in PE risk between male and female MZ twin pregnancies before GA 34+0. However, there were no significant differences in the overall incidence of PE or the risk before GA 28+0 or 32+0 weeks. [Extracted from the article] |
